Test & Development Technician

Location: Northampton – High-Performance Engineering
Employment Type: Contract 

A leading name motorsport and advanced engineering sector is seeking a Test & Development (T&D) Technician to join its specialist operations group. You will work closely with Production, Sub-Assembly and Build teams, contributing directly to performance, reliability and development programmes for high-end components and systems.

This role suits a proactive, technically strong individual who thrives in a fast-paced, precision-engineering environment.


Key Responsibilities

Test & Development Delivery

  • Conduct proof testing and legality checks on critical components to defined standards.

  • Perform development and validation work to support ongoing performance improvements.

  • Prepare, build and execute T&D tests including sensor placement, data logging configuration and post-processing of results.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Record all test data digitally, ensuring accuracy and adherence to test requests and internal procedures.

  • Upload and integrate findings into company systems to support reporting, traceability and future reference.

Operational & Workshop Support

  • Operate relevant test benches, rigs and software systems safely and competently.

  • Liaise effectively with engineers across multiple groups, keeping stakeholders updated on progress.

  • Maintain high standards of workshop organisation and contribute to continuous improvement.

General Responsibilities

  • Manage personal workload efficiently and meet tight deadlines when required.

  • Participate in meetings, providing clear updates and technical input.

  • Work professionally, proactively and responsibly within established reporting structures.

  • Carry out additional duties aligned with the role as reasonably required.


Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong knowledge of assembly techniques for both small and large-scale test assemblies.

  • Solid understanding of motorsport or automotive components and their performance/reliability characteristics.

  • Developing knowledge of structural proof testing, durability/fatigue testing and systems sign-off.

  • Competent IT skills with PLM systems, Microsoft Office and data-logging platforms (e.g., ATLAS, System Monitor).

  • Logical and analytical thinker with strong attention to detail.

  • Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
